Bought for my 6 year old granddaughter who wanted a music box with a crank. I wish it was a bit bigger- pay attention to the dimensions. It is easy for her to hold and crank. The mechanism is good and plays the melody nicely.
The music box is very pretty and has a good sound to it. Good quality for the price.
Cute box but the music part is less than stellar. Bought as a gift and was embarrassed by the quality.
I ordered this as another musical instrument to have around my home for my grandchildren to play with. I enjoy carved wooden boxes and when they are music boxes that makes them even better. I thought that I was ordering one with the word “LOVE” covering most of the lid, but apparently I didn’t pay close enough attention to the order as I received one with “You Are My Sunshine” carved on it. No big problem there as I like that tune and my grandchildren are one of the big sources of sunshine in my life!The mechanism inside of the box is of bright brass, steel and a set of yellow plastic gears. It’s attractive and pleasing to look at as the mechanism to turn and cause the tuning bars to strike. There is a clear plastic cover that allows you to see but protects the mechanism from touch. On the inside lid of the box is a bright mirror that you can play with as you move the lid up and down.All of that is good, but now I’ll tell you of two things that are rather strange to me. I have no idea why control buttons for sound or video player are carved on the top (along with a progress bar). The next is much more disappointing to me. I loved music boxes when I was a kid because I would try to find the exact spot when closing the lid that the music would cut off. It was a fun game. I determined when it would stop and when it would start! Fun. But with this music box the music starts when you turn the attached key at the bottom of the box and only stops when the spring runs down, not when you close the lid. Too bad!So, I’m giving this a four out of five because of the strange carvings on the top and (mostly) because the music doesn’t stop when the lid is closed. If that doesn’t bother you then this music box would rate five-stars.
One word of caution before getting to the rest of the review: The "large" music boxes are wind-up while the others are hand-crank. I wish I would have noticed that before choosing my music box. If you have a crank preference, be sure to check the pictures on the options before making your choice.With that out of the way, let me say that I have always loved music boxes but I have never owned any of my own. When I stumbled upon this little gem, I thought that it was time I got myself one. This music box looks really beautiful. The wood is very smooth and is stained a lovely hue. The plastic covering the mechanisms is crystal clear. The mirror on the inside of the lid is a nice touch, too!Personally, I would have preferred the lids to be blank so that you could personalize them yourself. Nonetheless, it is nice that there are a few designs to choose from and they are cut into the wood with precision. Oh! And I almost forgot to mention the sound! ... Yeah, it's a music box. It sounds like a music box. haha Nothing special there. If you love music boxes, you'll love this one.
This review is for the Large Wood Music Box-player that plays You Are My Sunshine. Engraved on the top is "you are MY Sunshine" with a cute sun, and along the bottom are symbols of a heart, rewind, play, fast forward and music staff with a note. Such a lovely little box, made of solid wood, with a mirror inside where you can watch the reflection of the mechanisms. Looks like a hand carved music box Grandma had, reminds me of my childhood. I'm partial to this song, being one of the first I learnt to play on the organ, and a good one to teach the young ones now. Perfect size to place on a bookshelf or piano, and cheer oneself up with a turning of the winding mechanism. What a beautiful surprise gift this would make for the music lover in your life.
This song is so special to me. My Mom sang it to me, I sang it to my children...oh, my heart. I ordered this music box to always remind me of the power of a mother's love. And how some of the smallest things can be so enduring.This music box is well made and looks as though it will be quite durable. I love the buttons carved into the top as if this were a phone. Funny nod to the present despite the age of the song.This music box would make a great gift. Or order it for yourself to remind you of whatever this song represents to you.
