Fantastic music box, beautiful and works great
This is a wonderful music box. I was so surprised to find that it plays the theme song from the Studio Ghibli film Castle In The Sky. That is my daughter's favorite movie, and she was thrilled to receive this music box in her stocking. The box itself is real wood with a beautiful open carved pattern in the lid. The lid is kept closed by a magnet so it is nice and secure. You can open the lid and watch the mechanics of the music box as it operates which is fascinating. I was looking for this exact feature because my kids were wondering how music boxes work. The crank is located on the bottom of the box and turns nicely. Of course this box does not play the entire song of castle in the sky, as other reviewers have complained. I can only imagine they don't understand how music boxes work; you would need a very large cylinder to hold that many notes, and the cost would be high. I can wind the crank about 10 turns of my wrist, it might be more or less depending on how you do it. The music box plays the most recognizable portion of the Castle in The Sky song, about 12 seconds long, or approximately 30 notes. It's beautiful and my entire family loves it.

I was looking for a small gift for an elderly friend out-of-state who is blind and having health issues. I didn't think flowers would work with caregivers coming and going. I stumbled on this music box. It is a great size and pretty, so I took a chance. I chose Cannon in D. It arrived yesterday and I was able to re-package with a note. I was worried because the box for the music box has what looks like an oil stain on 2 sides, however the actual music box was safely inside a bubble wrap bag. The delivery packaging was not soiled, just the one of two boxes inside the Amazon packaging. I had not noticed that there is a tiny magnet that keeps the lid closed, interesting. (I collect music boxes) Also, it plays whether the box is open or closed, which may be good for some people. The wind up on the bottom is a decent size so that should be easy for her. The tune is vaguely Canon in D, but with a small music box, it is pretty close. I do wish there were more tune selections, I would consider this for a future gift if there were more choices, many listed are modern songs.
