My Fake-chid Obsession is Real!

Let me preface this by saying I have the blackest of thumbs. My real orchids die even when I apologize to them daily for crimes I haven’t committed. Enter these glorious specimens of faux flora! Twelve bundles of them! My apartment now looks like a botanist threw a paint party, and I'm not even a little bit sorry.First off, the colors are fantastic. Red, pink, purple – all lovely. But that yellow. Oh, that glorious, almost-mustard yellow. It's the color of sunshine filtered through a jar of fancy Dijon, and I am LIVING for it. It’s so good, it’s practically edible. (Don’t eat it. It’s plastic and silk, I’m pretty sure.)At 14 inches tall, they're the perfect height for peering dramatically from vases, judging my life choices. And UV resistant? Bless their little synthetic hearts! Finally, a plant that can handle my refusal to close the blinds at noon! Take THAT, sun!The silk flowers themselves are surprisingly realistic. I mean, unless you’re one of those plant-whisperer types who can tell the difference between a real petal and a meticulously crafted fake one from 30 paces, you'll be fooled. The dark spots and striping? Chef's kiss. It's the kind of attention to detail that makes me want to give these orchids little names and whisper secrets to them.Okay, so the stems and leaves are identical. I admit it. They’re perfectly molded, like they came straight out of Plant Cloning Academy. But the gradient green, the shiny (almost waxy!) finish? From across the room, they scream "I'm a real, thriving orchid!" Up close, they politely whisper, "Okay, maybe not, but I'm still pretty!" And they ARE pretty.Look, are these going to fool a horticulturalist? No. Are they going to bring me joy every time I glance at them, knowing I didn't have to drown another innocent orchid soul to get there? Absolutely. Plus, I can now confidently tell people I have a green thumb...a very convincing fake green thumb. Best purchase I've made all year. This review is for the flowers themselves. Like an idiot I didn’t notice that the planter doesn’t come with it. (Now I need to buy the pot and the foam to complete it. This is not necessarily the manufacturer’s fault, but it could be called out for those like me that didn’t realize that. The flowers are very nice and have variation of colors that at a glance look real. They will peek up any dreary area I’m sure. The price at this time was $20. You can find similar at the dollar store so I’d like these to be priced a little less. The flowers are of great quality though.

Quality materials in bright colors

These are lovely faux flowers that appear well-made -- the stems are sturdy, there are plenty of blooms on each bunch and (so far) there are no loose or detached petals. There's a good mix of vivid colors that blend well with each other. They don't look as authentic as more expensive silk flowers, but they can pass as real from a distance.I wish I had ordered the package that included the hanging basket, but these will work in other types of planters and even in ground beds.

No one will ever know…

I live in Florida so it’s not unusual to see flowers all year round so I can get away with “planting” some of these artificial flowers in some hanging pots, now up North it’s still bitter cold so you couldn’t get away with it so easily. My sister saw my planters and commented how this is one of her favorite potted flowers in the summer so I thought I would arrange some for her for her birthday.These artificial flowers aren’t like the ones your mother or grandmother had, these actually look realistic. This 12 bundle package includes a mixture of purple, yellow, a red and maybe a fuchsia red or pinkish red. These bundles are packaged tightly in plastic so don’t be disappointed, they need a little fluffing and arranging. I usually take a hot dryer to soften them up but they also recommend swishing them in water or letting them sit in the sun. I then either place them in a foam block in a pot or if I have a pot with dirt I just stick them in the pot of dirt.Best thing about these flowers is once they are arranged nicely in a planter no one will ever know if these are real or fake, they would have to look at them closely to be able to tell the difference. The next best thing is you can go on vacation and not have to worry about asking the neighbors to water your flower pots, as a matter of fact you won’t have to water these flowers pots the entire summer!
