Beautiful artificial desert landscape plant

High quality artificial desert landscaping is hard to find without spending a fortune. For those of us living in harsh desert climates where water is scarce and irrigation absent, artificial plants are a necessity. The Velener artificial agave (yucca) plant is a winner for me.The plant comes in two pieces, the artificial plant and the spike to secure it in the ground.The plant itself consists of a large number of spike leaves in varying lengths. The leaf colors are very close to natural colors. The shape of individual leaves also mimics nature. The thickness and texture of the leaves is appropriate for the plant and adds to its realism. And the large number of leaves results in a very full and attractive plant. The only thing missing (thank goodness) is the very sharp points on the ends of the leaves that natural agave plants have.The plant arrives nicely folded up with individual spikes wrapped in plastic sheaves. I used a hair dryer on the base of the plant, where the leaves attach to the stalk, to allow the leaves to relax and open up. By doing so the plant becomes much more open and attractive and reveals the center of the plant which has realistic new spikes appearing.I’m not really impressed with the stalk of the plant. It’s about 4” long, a dull brown, and doesn’t add anything to the beauty or realism of the artificial agave. The stalk has a square hole drilled in the bottom to insert a short metal rod which is attached the plastic ground spike. The plastic ground spike does not work well for those of us living in the desert SW with very hard, rocky soil. The plastic will break if it is pounded into this type of soil.The short metal rod slides easily into the stalk, which concerns me as to how well it will hold in place the top heavy agave plant in wind or over time. Since I don’t like the look of the long bare stalk, I dug a hole deep enough to contain both the ground spike and the entire stalk. This serves two purposes; to secure the plant snugly in the ground and to hide the ugly stalk. I don’t imagine this would be an issue if the plant is used in a pot that is placed in a sheltered area free from wind.The listing indicates the plant is UV resistant but recommends the use of an annual UV protectant spray to keep it from fading and deteriorating. This is a must if it is planted where it will get year-round full sun, which is not recommended in the listing.I highly recommend this lifelike artificial agave plant. It’s a beautiful plant to use in pots or gardens and adds color and texture to desert landscapes. The ugly stalk and insecure ground spike don’t have to be an issue if you’re willing to put a small amount of work into digging a small hole and burying them at ground level. I am very satisfied with this plant.

Easy quick foliage but not very impressive for the cost

It's challenging to find good quality outdoor plants that are UV resistant that won't crumble after a season. This agave plant isn't bad, it's just overpriced at just under fifty dollars at this time and there's better options to be found that are more realistic looking and fuller. It comes nicely packaged with each leaf covered in a plastic sleeve. It's very easy to put together, you just slide the plant base into the black ground stake. It's not a firm fit but the stem is long enough I don't think it will fall out unless you lift it up. The leaves do slightly fluff out if you shape them which makes it look better. If you need to fill in a quick bare spot this would work great, but definitely look around for others of better quality in this cost range.
