Powerful graphic relief
I feel that I should state upfront that I am a professional sculptor, so things that bother me might not bother others.The photo shows a gold base color (at least it looks gold on my monitor), whereas the one I received was copper. The blue is a faded denim blue which, along with the low-lighting done on the copper tone give it an aged look which is aesthetically pleasing. I actually prefer the copper tone to the gold, so I was pleasantly surprised when I took it out of the box and it looks very nice on the wall.The raised fist against the flag is a dramatic image that reminds me of Soviet propaganda art during WWII and I think it is composed very well overall with high-relief, so the fist really pops. That said, some of the details are wonky in terms of anatomy and drapery (admittedly, two of the most difficult things to learn in sculpting). The deeply etched lines in the hand are overly done and don't follow natural contours while the billows in the flag, while nicely executed forms, don't really flow the way a real flag would with ripples changing position from one stripe to the next in an unnatural way - and the star field is kind of all over the place instead of being confined to a rectangle. These are not huge complaints - I like it for what it is and think it is a striking piece overall. It's inaccuracies can easily be seen as exactly the sort of stylized forms common to the previously mentioned propaganda art style of the 1930s/40s
