Nice candle though it burns a little on the hot side

This 10 ounce, lavender scented 100% natural soy wax candle’s vendor is Silkwishes, which specializes in ceramic goods including an extensive line of ceramic jar candles. The product dimensions given by the vendor are 3.66"W x 3.46"H. I will note that the width they give is the widest point in the center of the jar. The vendor doesn’t provide a weight for the jar, just the wax contained therein. I measured the weight of the jar with 10 ounces of wax and it weighed a total of 16.544 ounces. The vendor didn’t provide any information about the candle wick and the wick needed trimming, so I cut off a sample and took it apart revealing that it appears to be a 100% cotton wick without any sort of paper or zinc core. I was surprised that the candle did not have any sort of cap or lid. If you intend to store this candle for a significant length of time without burning it, I’d recommend that you improvise a lid if possible to slow down the leeching out of fragrance from this soy wax candle.I conducted a burn test. The candle burns cleanly and evenly with no tunneling. The lavender scent is pleasant and relaxing. One thing I did notice is that the ceramic jar gradually heats up over time. In a little over 2 hours burn time the ceramic jar can heat up to over 170 degrees Fahrenheit. You could burn your hand if you tried to pick up the candle at this temperature. One reason for this high temperature is that the opaque white ceramic absorbs the heat more than a translucent glass. Also, the wick on this candle might be a bit oversized as there is a bit of mushrooming that occurs which you should combat by trimming the wick back to ¼ inch when necessary. In addition to all the usual precautions laid out by the National Candle Association and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), I would recommend the additional precaution not to burn this candle for more than 2 hours at a time. You typically never want to burn any candle for more than 4 hours at a time but for a candle that heats up this much, I’d recommend stopping at the 2 hour mark as an additional precaution.The manufacturer estimates that the candle has an estimated burn life of 60 hours. I conducted an extensive 19 hour burn test which was split up into numerous sessions. During this time, close to 4 and a half ounces of wax was consumed. Since, according to the NFPA we shouldn’t burn the candle when less than half an inch of wax remains, my burn test indicates that the actual burn life of the candle is about 40 hours.The price of this particular candle is currently $17.99. The prices for candles in the Silkwishes line currently vary from $18.99 to $13.99 with the only differences being the message on the candle jar and the color of the candle jar.

Great quality, feels handmade, but small candle

Adorable little candle in a unique shape. The soy candle arrived very well packaged with a molded foam insert and immediately upon opening to inspect it, I was hit with the light fresh lavender scent of the candle which rarely happens with most candles. It seems like it will burn well with a light scent. The text is baked onto the fairly thick ceramic vessel so the appreciation sentiment can live on after the candle is finished. I particularly like the ridging all the way around the jar - it makes it feel handmade. The small size allows it to be used anywhere, but I was surprised how small it was given the price point. The description picture of the potter putting his entire hand into the jar is a bit misleading, however it is similar to the picture of the woman holding the 3.6 inch jar across her fingers. If you are looking for a quick, quality gift with a thoughtful thank you sentiment this gift will fit the bill despite the small size. This is a gift I can feel good about giving so will stock up if it goes on sale.
