We wanted close fitting ring and if we got the larger non opening ring the curtain would have hung lower, looking looser and not looked as nice. They are light weight and sturdy.

great if you have an existing OLD TIME curtain rod bolted to wall you don't want to remove.

i moved into parents house and in living room they had a valance like bolted to the wall with some sheer panels on those plastic rings (see picture). I removed the sheers and put up curtains, but didn't want to remove any of the hardware as it would leave a mess on the walls which i didn't have the paint color to patch. So, that meant I couldn't just slide rings on the rod - so i used these hooks which opened up and i could just clip into those plastic rings. VOILA. problem solved. these are not thick rings and have a little give to them. A few didn't stay closed well so i tried to twist it to make it align better (didn't really work)....so quality is not fantastic, but in my case it was my only solution and since you can't see them behind the valance it wasn't a big issue for me.
