The gold frame is not an overly bright shiny gold but a really nice slightly antique color. However, the brackets are a tiny bit more cheap looking. It's not obvious enough for me to knock down any starts though. Installation is fairly easily. But it is very heavy and I would highly suggest 2 people to hang it up.
