Soft but not lush and thick.

I got this rug to layer on top of my very low pile carpet. I wanted shag to create a super comfy area where this rug will accompany a club chair and be an enticing place for the pup. The first thing I noticed is that this is not your typical loomed wool or yarn material. It looks and feels like a lighter, wispier material, not the lush thick shag I remember from my parent's groovy play room. It feels soft to the touch but has a smooth, plasticky feel underfoot, definitely different from a normal wool rug. If you're used to traditional rugs made with heavier fabrics, it may take a bit to warm to this lighter, fluffier material. It's probably forgivable given the price point but potential purchasers need to expect something less lush and dense than they're expecting. As a rug I envisioned to entice my pup I'll keep it but I wouldn't get it again.

Thin, wispy, strong smell, pretty color

I debated between 3 and 4 stars for this rug. It is extremely thin. The backing is similar to a very cheap bathroom rug. It will slide on pretty much any surface. We bought ours to put in an open section of plank flooring that our dog was slipping on. We used rug stickers to hold it in place.I wouldn't call this fluffy necessarily. But maybe that is just my opinion of the word. This is so thin, almost no padding with wisps of fabric almost like cotton candy that come out of it. This will be difficult to clean because of the type of wispy fabric on top. And it doesn't shed a lot but you can easily pull the wisps out if you wanted to. I'm concerned that vacuuming it will cause them to come out much easier.The color is bright and very pretty. It is exactly as pictured. When we removed it from the packaging it had a very strong chemical smell. So strong that I had to put it near the front door and I would have put it outside if I had anywhere to set it to air out. Even 48 hours later it still had that scent even though it was tolerable. We have had it down for 3 days at this point and if I get close enough I can still smell it. But my dogs don't seem bothered by it which is the whole reason we bought it.Overall, for the money, this isn't a bad deal. But I wouldn't purchase it again. And once it becomes ratty or stained as I know it will I will toss it and buy something a bit better. But for now it's cute to look at it keeps my dog from slipping and I'm glad I purchased it.

Nice rug for those on a budget - GREAT non-slip backing will keep it in place. Good deal!

For the price, this is a nice rug. It does have some issues with thickness and overall fabric quality, but for right around $20, it's a fair deal. Upon unfolding the rug, there was the usual strange factory smell, but a couple hours draped over a patio chair had it pretty much gone unless I pressed my nose up against it. Under my feet, the rug feels nice and it does have a little bit of padding. The nonslip surface underneath is about as good as I've ever seen - even on MUCH more expensive rugs, so that is a definitely plus. Lifting the rug and holding it up with a light source behind it, I can see a number of "thin" or "bald" spots, but, again, lying on the floor, underfoot, they aren't apparent at all. The crux is, don't buy this expecting a $100 rug. If one keeps their expectations realistic, is looking for a splash of color in a room and isn't looking for a rug upon which to lay or sit, it definitely does the job. Goodness knows, after raising a bunch of kids, there are CERTAINLY places and situations where a $20 rug is just fine and leads to A LOT less heartache than a $100 rug absorbing fruit punch, chewing gum or whatever. The rug I chose is a deep blue - not so dark as Navy but a deep, rich blue and the color looks great and hasn't bled at all into my bare feet or the floor beneath. With thin spots already showing (as noted above), I recommend spot cleaning as needed as the washer may make those thin spots into much more problematic areas.Final verdict: If you are looking for a nice rug around the $20 price point, this is a great example with FANTASTIC non-slip that will keep it in place in high-traffic areas. In this situation, this is a SOLID 4 star rug and I highly recommend!
