The curtains are made very well, they definitely are black out curtains! I love them, they hang nicely and great color. Very easy to install.
I have tried so many different brands, and all of them either filtered the light and still let it in, let the light in but made it yellow, didn't work, or had bad texture, but I am blown away by these. They are so soft and very high quality, and they are the length as shown. They fully block out the light. I have sun shining straight in my window, but these literally make it to the point you can't see anything but black when they are put up. They are a bit hard to install because these curtains are VERY heavy, enough that they could easily bend curtain rods, and they are very wide and extremely high quality and have several layers. They look sleek, nice, and modern.
My girlfriend got these for our bedroom because I have a hard time sleeping if there’s light coming in the window in the morning. But also, we happen to have a street light right outside and that also bothered me too. We have moved since then, but I still love these blackout curtains. I sleep so much better with them. They actually fully blackout bright light. Not like some of the other others that’s still allow light to pass through. The backside has black fabric. So they are basically double thick. They also work well to help insulate a little bit in the colder months. They look pretty good too. I think I’ve had them since 2021. No issues at all. I would definitely recommend them.
Update 9 June, 2022.As we head into blazing heat (heat index next week is 105), I have to say, we are still pleased with these curtains. Our slumlord won't replace our windows from the Dec. 11 tornadoes (He has to save that $44k in insurance money instead or providing for his tenants) so we have plastic up. With these curtains, it helps so much in keeping the AC in and the heat out. I just opened the curtains just to look out and you can feel an immediate difference. The white color doesn't stay well at all and gets worse with each wash, but for our heat/Air, it's worth it.Update - 16 Feb, 2021:Wind chill outside is 1 F. There is a noticeable difference with the curtains closed (we need new windows). These are nice and thick curtains. Also, with the curtains closed, at night with the lights on inside, from outside it looks like everything is off and we're in bed.Great sound damper too.But when you wash them that great stark white is no more. It gets off-white. And the wrinkles are STILL there. But still great curtain and buying more.I can't comment on energy efficiency because I just hung them. Wrinkles out of the box but that may disappear with time and washing. These remind me of those heavy drapes we had in the '70s. These are heavy and thick. Very soft as well.I used the Umbra Twilight double curtain rod. Just in case I wanted to add a darkening liner behind it. Don't think I'll need to!I'll be hanging a valance byt so far these have done well with room darkening.
Great Test Case for These Curtains:We have those neighbors that are too bright and too loud too often. They lock their little dog out in the yard at sunrise and it keeps barking at their door until they finally let it back in again. They shine their fancy yard lights into bedroom window all night too. They talk outside until early in the morning, just loud enough to be disruptive. Combined with the lights at night, blazing morning sun in the window, it's rough to get that last bit of sleep on recharge days. When the suffering and lonely exiled little dog barks, the dual-pane windows resonate and make a chiming ring that is very irritating, amplifying and adding a shrill note to each insistent yelp. Too bad, I feel sorry for that little dog.Where we live, it is illegal to play a musical instrument, cuss or sing, but legal to use a chain saw, lawn mower or pressure washer from 7:00am to 10:30pm every day, so the only way to deal with noise is to seal it out somehow.Solution:Installed these with a good amount of overhang to the sides and bottom using a wrap-around curtain rod purchased on Amazon ("Umbra Twilight Room Darkening Curtain Rod"). Took all of about 5 minutes with a cordless drill and a tape measure.Light Blocking: Excellent. No transmission and low leakageCan sleep past sunriseRadiant Heat Blocking: Noticeable improvement. Wish the outside was whiteLooks: Sigh, all the appeal of a blanket, or that first apartment and crummy jobThese would be fine with a large valance and a more sheer or decorative curtain in front ($$$$)We can live with the looks until we escapeSleep is good, and we don't look at them while we sleepSound: Big improvement for high frequencies - can't hear the glass rattling nowLawn mowers have less high punch, but the lows are still thereRoom is more "dead" than it was with shutters alone for sureGrating factor of sounds reduced, soft voices not as disturbing and some gone nowOverall, we can feel the mental boost from better sleep, simple as that. Perhaps we won't have to move as soon now.
Best black out curtains that I have bought so far. And I have spent many years working third shift throughout my years on this earth. These even pass the flashlight test.
