Cool but looks narrower than measures

I definitely love these curtains because they go well with our bedroom walls and the neutral color helps to keep the room look large and wide. Unlike my previous curtains that were dark blue and were "cutting" the wall and making the room look smaller, these curtains are very nice and match the walls. However, my previous curtains width was 36" per panel and this one is 38" per panel but these don't cover as much as the previous ones did. I have no idea how it is possible, maybe the top part where you put the rod in the holes and the previous one was the curtain itself stretching on the rod. Something makes these curtains look narrow and not cover the window fully when they were supposed to be even wider by measurements. But I'm not returning it, as said, the color is beautiful and it covers a good part of the window and my husband and I can finally have some sleep ))
