Luxe Holiday Candle

As a candle and scent enthusiast, I've long been intrigued by Lafco's beautiful catelogue of candles. This years holiday scent debut included "Woodland Spruce", and I knew i had to try it! Lafco is a brand I often see at many high-end retailers like Sephora and Macy's, and these luxe candles can get quite spendy. The voltive size was a perfect opportunity to indulge!The packaging is gorgeous, very festive for the holiday season, and perfect for gift giving. The attached ribbon at the top continues the holiday theme, and gives the packaging a cute ornament like appearance. The candle jar is hand blown like other Lafco candles, is a gorgeous speckled gold with white, and filled with a hand poured, luxurious Spruce scent. Lafco offers an upscale scent experience. The wax is mainly soy (long lasting), made from renewable, biodegradable and non toxic resources.The candle burns cleanly and slowly... and even though this is just a voltive, I can tell it will last longer than other votives I've purchased. I'll update this review with the approximately number of hours my voltive lasts.In terms of strength, this voltive is small and not as mighty as my larger candles for sure. Prior to lighting the wick, I could sniff the wax and the scent was prominent. I have it sitting on my kitchen table, and while seated at the table I can smell and enjoy the medley of notes that make up "Woodland spruce". This scent is describes as birch bark, Spruce and palo Santo. As someone who gets excited for holiday tree candles, this is a delightful and unique take on a seasonal favorite. It is a warm and inviting scent. Like sitting in front of your fireplace, a full rack of wood to feed the fire at the ready, and your freshly cut Christmas tree filling the room with fresh Spruce scent. It is light but distinguishable, and very natural, not overpowering at all.This candle would make a lovely gift for someone you care about who enjoys scent and candles. A little bit of luxury! I am excited to try the other 2 scents in this collection/holiday release. There is a set of 3 volitves for $50, a slight price decrease from buying them individually. I would repurchase this candle, keeping in mind this is for a special occasion/purchase. I don't usually spend this much on candles of this size. For this price I typically like a larger, 3 wick candle. If you'd like your scent to linger past a few feet, I'd purchase a larger size of this candle.Lafco created a beaitiful interpretation of Woodland Spruce!

High-quality candle with excellent burn time and fragrance throw

This candle smells heavenly like delicious bourbon with toasted oak and vanilla. It is not overly sweet and is nicely balanced with creamy and spicy notes. The candle size is small, but the scent is quite strong. As a candle maker myself, the wax and fragrance oil are of the highest quality, and it’s true to the scent notes listed. It has excellent throw even when unlit, and although it’s a small-sized candle, it easily fills a bedroom or bathroom with scent. It’s the perfect thoughtful gift for anyone as the scent has universal masculine and feminine appeal, and the candle feels high-end and more expensive than the actual cost. It comes in cute packaging you can hang from a Christmas tree, so it's already ready to gift.

It's exactly what it says it is...

The first thing I would like to address are some of the other early reviews of this candle. It's a votive. 1.9oz. 20 hour burn-time. Exactly what is says it is. Not really fair to criticize it for any of the above facts. Cost-to-size might be worthy of discussion, but LAFCO is a luxury brand selling luxury products and this pricing is consistent with the brand as a whole.As for the candle itself...The fragrance package for this candle is wonderful; complex and clean. Cold throw was rather limited, but expected of the more limited surface area of a votive. Hot throw felt suitable for smaller spaces like a bathroom or for close proximity, faltering a bit in a 10x14' room. First-burn melt pool was fully formed in less than 30 minutes making it good for shorter burns as compared to larger vessel candle.The vessel itself looks great, especially when lit. The bottom was a little off-level resulting in a slight wobble, but nothing problematic from a fire safety standpoint. The wick was also slightly off-center, but did not impact melt pool formation.Packaging was simplistic, but nice. On-theme, I could even see the (empty) box being used as a Christmas ornament.

Very nice, but very small

Reading up on Lafco products, it appears they are considered high end which would explain the price point. The scent is nice and mild and it burns evenly. That all being said, it's a very small candle and for me, I don't/can't really pick out the difference in such 'higher end candles' vs candles that are significantly less expensive. I could easily list a few brands of candles here that are half the price that I like just as much. Keep in mind, this is made in the USA which will always entail some premium in the price. The packaging is very nice and it is gift worthy for the person who is aware of the product line and places a premium on it. For my purposes, I use candles in much larger spaces and will generally burn much larger candles to fill the room.EDIT: we're at about 6 hours and it's easily 80% spent. Not sure how anyone is getting 20 hours out of this.

smells amazing but tiny for the price

I must not have paid much attention to the description of this item because I totally missed that it says it's votive sized. Either that or the description has been updated after I made my order. I think if I had realized that the candle was this small, I would not have ordered it. However, here we are, so.... The candle smells absolutely amazing and the votive cup it comes in is very pretty and festive. But asking $18.50 (at the time of this review) for a votive sized candle is WAY out of hand IMO. I give it 3 stars because the candle smells awesome even before burning. But I have my doubts about the claim of 20 hour burn time, given the candle's relatively small size. And I think the price is just way too high to make this a good deal.
