You can't go wrong with LAFCO candles. They look beautiful and smell great! The glass is high quality and I often use mine for votives or flowers once the LAFCO candle burns all the way through. This one is especially nice for the holidays both in appearance and scent! They are worth every penny in my opinion!

First, I love the scent. Of course, scent preference is subjective, and ordering online is even more difficult because you have to rely on the individual notes to determine scent, rather than a first hand smell. So, I'll do my best...The main player is the plum. Both Plum absinthe and black plum give a gentle fragrance without overpowering the candle with nose slapping sweetness. The plum is complimented by notes of artemisia and sandalwood to add a touch of masculine that works beautifully with the plum.The candle is made from soy wax which may, or may not, matter to some. It's been my experience that soy wax produces a wafting scent. It's the difference between spraying perfume directly onto the skin vs creating a mist to step through. It's a hint, rather than an exclamation.I took a few pictures to show the candle after burning for about 6 hours. It's easy to see that the burn of the wick didn't eat up much wax and didn't create the nasty soot that others invariably do. Of course, any flame is going to generate heat, but trimming the wick keeps the heat to a minimum.The candle is smaller than pillar candles, but given the rate that the wax dissipates, I don't doubt the longevity and think 50 to 60 hours is a reasonable expectation for lasting. The presentation of the hand blown glass is a nice touch. There are no gaudy stickers to hide, so it blends right in with decor. Aesthetics matter!So...value for the money? Yes, it's more expensive than many other scented candles, but the quality of those candles is usually subpar and begin smelling like melted crayons more than anything else way too soon. For me, the value is there, but that's my subjective opinion.
Would I recommend this candle? Emphatically... Y-E-S-! In fact, putting my money where my mouth is, I've already ordered four more LAFCO candles since this one arrived, and will undoubtedly be back for more.Performance-wise I found Feu de Bois to have significant cold throw, not only prior to first burn but (unlike some candles) after as well. The hot throw was also impressive, offering a strong fragrance in the 10x14' space I've been burning it in. Well-wicked, the melt pool was fully formed by about the 3.5hr mark during first burn.The fragrance is wonderfully complex and, to my nose, evoked a nostalgic description of what freshly sawn cedarwood should smell like on the cold throw, while opening up an amber-y/leathery warmth while burning.The holiday version of this vessel is absolutely stunning and I greatly look forward to the day it is empty and ready to be repurposed within my home.
I'm still completely confused by this whole "candle as luxury item" phenomenon that's exploded in recent years. I mean, it used to be that a scented candle was nice, but working on the same level of domestic luxury as, like, a Glade plug-in or a aerosol room spray. Now these things cost three figures! And I'm not sure the scent or the quality has improved that much. (Is a $75 candle actually ten times better than a $7.50 candle?)So while this candle is really nice, and I like the "Feu de bois" (i.e., wood fire) scent a lot, is it worth this much money? Who's to say. If you want to pay these kinds of bucks for a candle, though, go for your life! This is a good one.
