An Ape Looking Shiny Enough to Head a Vegas Residency and Crush "I Did It My Way"
I honestly got this little golden bust because of two specific reasons: firstly, I’m a huge admirer of one Jane Goodall, may she rest in peace (and yes, I know she studied chimpanzees and not gorillas, but trust me and get to reason number two); secondly, one of my favorite childhood movies (and adulthood ones, let’s be real here) is George of the Jungle starring Brendan Fraser and Leslie Mann, with the glorious casting choice of John Cleese (of Monty Python fame) as the voice of George’s beloved best friend, a talking (and well-educated) ape named Ape. Ape has a fantastic line near the end of the film, where he hears the mother of the bride (played by the singularly incomparable Holland Taylor) while at George’s wedding in the jungle (sorry for the spoiler if you haven’t seen the film that’s been out since roughly 1997, folks) sort of roll her eyes and pretentiously say, “I wish you would do something about all these monkeys. I feel like Jane Goodall.” -to which Ape suddenly appears next to her and replies, “Madam, I knew Jane Goodall, and you are no Jane Goodall.” Thus, leading me to finding this lovely little bust of a gorilla just like brother Ape, who also is known for wearing spectacles. On the more technical side of course, the back of it has a standard hole for easily installing it by hanging it on a screw to have it be nearly flush against the wall, the quality is perfectly fine for the coloring and all, and the sculpt is just so joyful to look at. It's not too heavy, it's just bigger than the size of my hand, and goodness, it's just so fun. I cannot wait to get this up on my gallery wall. I absolutely, wholeheartedly, cannot recommend this enough for your wall. (Plus, Amazon will deliver it in a standard box - it doesn’t have to be delivered via toucan, though honestly, that would’ve probably just made me want it more…)

Too yellow for my taste, but easily darkened!
This little gorilla head is so cute and quirky. I love it. He measures around 4" x 6". The glasses are not removable. You could remove the chain with the right tools if you wanted to. There is an indentation in the back to hang it so that it lays flat against the wall. It's very lightweight but feels sturdy. The color was a little too yellow for my taste. It can be darkened if you want to darken it. I have a lot of brass, bronze, and antique gold accessories in my room, but nothing that is bright yellow gold. I prefer a toned-down vintage gold or bronze color. The gorilla head has a lot of fine detail and is very well-constructed. Dust wipes away very easily with a clean, soft cloth. This statue can add some fun and whimsy to any style of decor from classic or traditional, to modern and rustic.
