Versatile rug, great value

This is an affordable, versatile rug. The one I have is doormat size, and it makes for a nice-looking doormat. It won't slip, even on parquet. If you have two or three of them, you can set up an area for people to leave their shoes when they enter your home.I tried something with this and was pleased with the result. I took in a rescue kitty, and he has a fetish for clawing carpet. I put down a runner (long throw rug) over his chosen scratching area, but then instead of moving on to use one of the many types of scratch pads and posts I have for him, he chose the top two stairs. I thought I'd try, as a lark, folding this rug up into a stair step cover. That's no lark, it works perfectly. I pushed it into place and it does not slip. So now it protects those steps.Area rugs and throw rugs have many uses, you get many of the benefits of wall to wall carpet without the attendant dirt storage problem. Allergists say a good first step to make a home allergen-free is to rip out the carpet. But a bare floor is cold on your feet and not so great to lie down on to snuggle a pet or a child. The typical problem with such rugs is they are harder to clean than wall to wall carpeting is. There's nothing holding them in place the way carpet is held so a vaccum cleaner or a carpet shampooer is a trick and a half to use on them. Most will fall apart if put in a washing machine; not only does the backing crack and break, but the glue that holds the fibers dissolves. This one is actually machine-washable.Of course, when you wash a rug use cold water and very little detergent. Don't dry on high heat (low until damp, then air dry), and don't use fabric "softener" (which is simply rancid fat with petrochemical fragrances). This one, if properly cared for, should last about 30 years. So if you amortize the cost per day, you find it's quite a bargain for what you get.

Pretty design..but

This rug does have a nice design to it, but I can't say the value is there. After only about 6 hours of laying on my carpeted floor, the corners are already lifting, so I would suggest rug tape especially if youbare putting this in a hard surface floor. This has absolutely no non slip material on the underside so it slips all over the place, even on carpet. I also know this is a 2x3 rug as in the description, but the images provided make it look like a very large area rug, which might confuse some people if they dont tend to read the descriptions. This is very light and thin with no pile at all. I give it 3 stars for the lack of no slip material and the corners raising so soon after it was placed. It definitely has a pretty design and If it had the grip, I'd buy one in a larger size if it were available. My images show when first placed on the floor after opening, and now 6 hours later.
