A masculine, casual, and almost elegant vibe.
The green marble bowl I received measures 10 inches in diameter and 2 inches tall without the base or any non-slip pads attached. With the wooden base in place, it is 3 1/4 inches tall. I didn’t use the rubber non-slip pads. There are four pads included; they are round, 5/8 inch in diameter, and 1/8 inch thick. I don’t know what the pads are made of, but they feel similar to an EVA foam and have adhesive on one side. When I saw the photo of the bowl, I was concerned the wooden base would be ugly or look cheap. It is neither. You can’t actually see the base unless the bowl is nearly up to eye level. The base on my bowl is finished well with a walnut-like stain and a satin sheen. It is also clever how the base is attached. The bowl has a 2 1/4 inch diameter, 1/8 inch deep flat bottom hole milled into it. There is a flush-mounted nut in the middle of the hole that is epoxied into place. The wooden base has been machined to fit into the hole and has a bolt in the middle. Once the base is tightened up, everything is sturdy, and there are no gaps between the base and the bowl. When I asked my wife if she thought the bowl was elegant, she said that’s not the word she would use. She said it is really nice and heavy, then left me to search for my own words. It weighs about 6 1/2 pounds without the base and 6 pounds 13 ounces with the base, that is approximately 3 kilos. So it is heavy and has a solid build. It doesn’t look delicate. The bowl’s finish is glossy but not a highly polished gloss. The surface is very smooth, but it is not perfectly smooth like glass. I think this slight difference in texture and gloss gives it a more casual vibe, like it is okay to use it and not just have it on display. I’m going to call it masculine casual elegant. The bowl I received is almost perfect. I found 2 really small chips. The chips are just on the surface and are 1 mm in diameter. I didn’t actually see them at first but could feel them. I think it is fairly common for natural materials like marble to have some flaws.I think the bowl has an attractive design, I actually like the base but it looks good with or without. The finish is nice but not so perfect that I’m afraid to use it. I think $60 is a little high if I were to purchase it for myself, but I would not have any hesitation to gift it at that price.
