Lovely Decorative Accents, but Not Quite Heavy Enough for Functional Bookends

This set of bookends is a terrific way to add a bit of style to one’s home or office.These bookends arrived extremely well-packed, fully surrounded by molded styrofoam, and delivered in a large, sturdy cardboard box. Once opened, after cleaning up the abundance of foam pieces that flew everywhere, the beautiful design of these bookends made me very happy that they were packed so well, which ensured that they arrived in perfect condition.I ordered the gold-colored pair and I was pleased to see how brightly reflective they are, even when placed in a relatively dark corner of my bookshelf. My set had no dents, scrapes, missing paint, or defects of any kind. Their 360-degree design allows them to be placed in many different areas and at multiple angles, depending upon what best fits the space.The measurements provided for these bookends are slightly imprecise. The figure seated on the ground measures 6.6 inches at its tallest point, 5.25 inches at its widest when viewed from the front, and 5.75 inches at its widest when viewed from the side. The figure seated on the box measures 8 inches at its tallest point, 2.25 inches at its widest when viewed from the front, and 4 inches at its widest when viewed from the side.Additionally, it is important to note that both figures are hollow on the inside and are made of ceramic that has been painted in a gold color and then electroplated, which makes these fairly lightweight compared to traditional bookends. While they should be able to prop up some small paperbacks, these are not going to work as actual bookends for large, thick, hardcover books. I have them seated in the corners of a bookshelf, and they look fantastic, so while their value as “bookends” is questionable and they are largely decorative, I’m certainly not complaining about how nicely they have supplemented my décor.Overall, I think these are a lovely pair of decorative bookshelf accessories, and I appreciate the elegance that they add to my office. Since I have no complaints about the quality of these items, and the weight does not impact my use, I see no reason to reduce the rating simply because they do not quite meet my expectations for functional bookends.

Overall Thoughts…This product is described as a “decorative bookends”, but with a little imagination, you can use them for easy, mobile decorations throughout any home, apartment or business (SEE PHOTOS). The pair I have arrived with a gold finish, also with a seamless and mirrored finish, with both standing approximately 6 and 8 inches tall, respectively. Yes, they are bookends, with open ports in each base, to which you can easily fill with sand to supplement them with additional weight to stay in place, or not. The two also come with patch or coverings to seal up the openings once you have finished with the sand. As shown in photos the two figures, are shown reading books, with one sitting on a box and the other seated on the ground. They are simple figurines, but are attractive. They feel more like they are of a metallic composition, but are listed as ceramic. I gave these 5 stars for their quality and simplicity.
