Very pretty for my Thai dinner party
Great
The costs of imported goods have been and will only continue to rise, and it is no longer so easy to find cheaply (read poorly) made goods at a true, commensurate price. So it is with these tealight candle holders, which seem a bit expensive to me for what you get. However, if you’re not expecting an heirloom, they are quite pretty and functional. As others have mentioned, they seem fragile, but I think they will prove to be more durable than they look. When you add and light a tealight candle (and I do use real candles with no damage or ill effects), they glow with a lovely and delicate appeal. I could not find on the Amazon listing where they are made, but after doing a little digging, I believe they are from the Philippines, where capiz (i.e. windowpane oyster) shells are prevalent and are, in fact, used as a glass substitute in windows. Therefore, I do believe these candle holders are made from actual capiz shell, and not plastic, as at least one other reviewer has claimed.
This little votive holder can be used anywhere. In fact, I have moved it around and just might have to get others because it looks good in the hallway, bedroom, bathroom, living room and dining room. Did I mention the porch too! This aqua color is very nice as well.
Lovely room decoration
The petals are connected evenly, so it doesn't look cheap in that way. The petals are also very pretty with their opaque, pearl-like color, but the gold lining is cheap gold paint with no shine at all. The worst detail on this lotus candle holder is that there are globs of glue on and between them that can be seen even without a lit candle. There are so many flawed glue spots that no matter which angle I display it at, they're visible. Turning it all the way around, 360 degrees, there are no clean angles. I'm upset because I've always wanted a lotus candle holder of this design, and it's just a disappointment.
