Fun St. Patrick’s Day Décor With Minor Drawbacks
These St. Patrick’s Day window clings are a cute and festive option, but they come with a few quirks that are worth knowing ahead of time. There are no instructions provided with the product. I happened to be using window clings for the first time with this, so I was disappointed that I had to go back to the original listing to look for tips and tricks on how to apply this. The listing did provide instructions, but I feel that it should be provided with the product as well.Application is very easy. The clings stick smoothly to clean glass without needing water or adhesive, and they remove just as easily without leaving residue behind. The instructions state that you should dampen the window slightly. I took a damp paper towel, wiped the spot where I intended to apply the cling, and then applied it shortly after. Even though I had just wiped it with a damp paper towel, it had dried pretty quickly. So the reason that I say that I don't necessarily think you have to wet the window is because when I felt it just before I applied it, it didn't really feel damp to me. I am guessing that maybe as long as the surface is recently cleaned, it is enough to allow it to stick very well. I tested removing and reapplying one, and it came off cleanly and restuck to the paper it came on without any issues. They seem genuinely reusable, which is a big plus for seasonal décor. I plan to use these over the years so maybe if I remember to I can update the review if they do maintain their usability. Also, I only tested one cling because it's not close enough to St. Patrick's Day and I'm still decorating for Valentine's Day at this time, so I'll update the review if there's any issues with how well these cling once I fully decorate my windows later.Visually, they look nice once on the window, but the appearance does change depending on lighting. The green is darker and more saturated on the backing sheet than it appears on the glass. On windows where you mostly see reflections during the day (such as east-facing or very reflective windows), the clings can be harder to see from outside. I realize that sounds dumb to say, but I say this because it's not like they are bright enough to beat that condition of your window if your window is like that. They look best on interior-facing windows or areas like kitchen windows where light is more diffuse. They are not fully opaque, but more semi-opaque, which I don't really know if it's normal for clings (again, this is my first set), but I thought it was worth noting because I was personally surprised at the slight color differences once I had it on the window. One downside is the odor. When first opened, there was a strong vinyl/chemical smell. After airing them out overnight, the smell did lessen, but it is still noticeable when you’re close to them or handling several at once. It doesn’t fill the room, but it’s definitely present up close during normal handling. Letting them air near an open window helps, but buyers sensitive to smells should be aware.Storing them again is possible, but lining them back up perfectly on the original backing sheet is tricky once removed. They will still stick back onto the backing, though air bubbles can happen. This doesn’t affect how they work on the window, so it’s more of a minor inconvenience than a real issue. When I go to decorate for St Patrick's Day next month I'll be able to see them if it's still easy to apply the one I tested today now that I used it once before.Overall, these clings are easy to use, festive, and reusable, with realistic seasonal appeal. The lingering odor and lighting-dependent visibility keep them from being perfect, but they still make a nice temporary decoration when placed thoughtfully. They are beautifully designed and I am excited to use them fully.
