I purchased 2 white sets of 63" . I didn't want them to go to the floor. They hang about 6" below the window. I was looking for light darkening curtains but I didn't need total blackout. My windows face west. I wanted to also block the South Carolina heat. With that being said, yes they would provide total blackout if you hung them from floor to ceiling. They are lined with a white backing but their is a black out layer in between. I ran an iron over them and they hung very nice in doing so. I actually added a trim about 2 " up from the bottom to coordinate with my bedroom. Very good quality. I would buy again
