Bit of a surprise

Sometimes you buy things and get what you expect. Sometimes you don't. I was expecting a good wood shelf with a crappy mounting kit, where I would have to use my own wall anchors. Well, surprise. The kit has anchors as good or better than what I normally use and there's enough to mount a lot of shelves. This tells me the company is serious about selling a good product. The wood is solid with a good grain pattern and nice finish. The brackets attach easily to the shelf once they're mounted.

Good (except small areas where paint is off) read my review to avoid frustration!

I did a lot of research before buying these shelves! My one complaint is there were small spots where the paint was chipped off. I think all the brands I looked at had that complaint. There are a lot of floating shelves out there, and each has its quirks. I chose this particular brand because they have one single bracket which mounts to the wall. Many other shelves have two brackets, 1 for each side, and the reviews on those said they were a pain in the neck to line up properly. Also this brand says it can hold 25 pounds, some others held only 5. I don't need to put 25 lbs on these shelves, but I figured they were built a little more rugged and I think they are. Other reviews of this brand said the shelf leaned forward, or they slid off the mounting rods easily, and at first I thought so too, but I reread the directions and figured it out! Sliding problem: If you look carefully at the shelf itself, one side has a tiny, tiny pin hole in it. (see my picture) That is the bottom of the shelf. There are two very small screws, which you are supposed to put in those holes, to stop the shelf from slipping, BUT WAIT! in order for that to work, the bracket has to go up a certain way. It looks at first glance, like it doesn't matter, but there is a "half hole" or a divot in the bracket rods (see photo) it's hard to see because it isn't a hole that goes all the way through. Make sure that divot lines up with the pin holes on the bottom of the shelf (divots face DOWN) or the little screws won't help. Shelf tips down problem: they will tip if you don't screw the mounting screws (big screws that go in the wall) into the bracket below the surface of the bracket. That is, when you mount the bracket, don't stop screwing the screws when they are flush with the metal, they are meant to go deeper (countersunk holes). Problem is, when you're mounting it, it seems to be ok to stop at the metal. If you look all the parts over before you start assembling, you'll see that the shelf needs to have those screws out of the way for it to sit straight and stuff on the shelf to fall off! I am very happy with these, other than the paint chips and the fact that the paint is cheap "dusty" type stuff that probably causes cancer (I washed my hands well after) and I'm even happier that I've reached the age when I look everything over and read the directions several times before doing anything. (First time for everything)

Poor Quality Control and Awful Hardware

The only nice thing I can say about these shelves is that the wood is solid and looks great. Everything else is awful about them.BracketsI ordered 2 separate pairs of shelves and both had a slight bend on the rod which causes the entire shelf to lean, no matter how secured it is to the wall.HardwareThe hardware for the screws and wall anchors is MASSIVE. That sounds good but now I have 4-6 half-inch holes in my wall because of the issue mentioned above. I have mounted sturdier items to the walls with smaller hardware. Also, the bottoms screws that secure the shelves to the brackets don't line up and on one case, they did not pre-drill the hole.Customer Service/ReturnsIf you try and ask the manufacturer for part swaps, they can't do it. You must order replacements and send the old ones back with the original box. Complete waste of time for me.Never ordering from this seller again...
