Anecdote candle in "Glamping" scent features notes of teakwood, tea, tobacco and leather
I love woodsy, resinous, smoky, earthy, spicy scents, so I jumped at the chance to review Anecdote's "Glamping" candle. Teakwood and Leather? Yes, please! Modern Luxury x The Great Outdoors? Bring it on! When I actually unpacked the little tumbler, and gave it a deep sniff, my first impression was that I couldn't smell teakwood at all, and their leather accord seemed more like a sweet, apple-y pipe tobacco, with maybe some black tea thrown in. Upon reading the back of the label, I discovered that indeed, tobacco and tea were both mentioned as notes. For some reason, this candle reminds me of a Maison Margiela perfume, but I can't figure out exactly which one. Lighting the wick for half an hour really amped up those tea and tobacco notes, and new layers kept drifting pleasantly in and out as the coconut soy wax melted. Even though I never picked up much teak, my first encounter with Anecdote has been a positive one, and I'm curious to learn more about their lineup.

Nice fragrance, but burns kind of fast
The scent is a cologne-adjacent woodsy scent. If you like Mahogany Teakwood you’ll probably like this. The throw is good, and I can smell it through most of my house after burning it for a short time. The only thing I don’t like is the burn time. The listing says it should have 40-50 hours, but with how it’s burning for me, I think it’s a lot closer to 25-30. Not a huge problem, but I prefer candles that last a little longer.

Smells amazing
I make my own candles so am extremely picky about buying them. In general I prefer unscented candles, but if they are going to have a scent, it better be a good one. This one is AMAZING. I absolutely love it. It may sound weird, but it absolutely captures the scent of glamping! If Glamping were to have a scent. And it is just the right amount of scent - enough to notice, but not enough to annoy. The packaging is quite nice also. The lid did arrive dented but that was clearly not the fault of the vendor - the candle was tossed in a box with a bunch of other heavy items. So if you are ordering this as a gift, it might be wise to order it individually. It takes talent and care to craft a scent this complex. It is 100% worth it and I would be thrilled to receive this as a gift.

This is a legitimate "boutique" candle
I won't opine on how expensive this candle is--I might get in trouble, because my wife purchased another version (i.e. a different scent) of this company's candles in a high end boutique because she thought it was a nice candle. I think it's crazy to pay that much for a candle, but what do I know? That's why she doesn't send me to the store to buy candles. She was very excited to get this candle, and we both agree that it smells very nice. I'm not sure that I would say it screams "glamping" to me, but that's because I had smoky campfires in mind when I saw that name for the candle. It's definitely not smoky, but it does have an air of sophistication. It will make a fine addition to our mountain condo. If you're like my wife and don't think it's crazy to pay this much for a candle, then you will undoubtedly be delighted by this one.

Smells amazing
First thing I'll say is, this candle smells incredible. I can smell the leather and the teak. It's very well balanced and even when its not burning, I catch whiffs of it in the house. My husband can't stand flowery candles and this one is one of his favorites. I only burn non-paraffin wax candles, so this blend of coconut and soy was intriguing. It burns evenly without tunneling. I really like it. I will be hard pressed to not buy another one.Thankfully, the burn is slow, so it should last a long time. It's spendy for a candle, for sure, but if you regularly buy boutique soy candles, you know they're hand poured and the ingredients are expensive, so this is right there in the typical range. Candles like this are a lovely indulgence and I love how my living room smells when I burn "Glamping." Would definitely recommend!

Not a bad candle
But when the price of one is taken into consideration it drops a star. I've had a couple similar candles that ran the same size. They will typically give you more time per wax than a bigger brand. Sometimes tripling the time. This one is burning at a good slow pace. Eight hours has taken about a centimeter & the wicks holding up.The scent is sort of faint. Could be stronger. Guess a better label wouldn't hurt. Color the wax... Give it some more life if the smell isn't going to blow me away.

Good
This is my 2nd candle from this maker (I also ordered "Rooftop Soiree"). I like them both, but neither are unique, nor are they my favorites. The scent is a bit perfumy, like cologne. That's more enjoyable for me than my wife. Not incredibly strong when burned in a large room. This burns evenly instead of tunneling down the middle. Hand-poured in the USA with safe ingredients. Does not have a box or padding to keep it protected during shipping. Mine was actually shipped with another item, and I'm surprised it didn't break.
