The gems are pretty small, smaller than expected, which I am actually delighted with. My kids have been fighting over Lego gems, but buying Lego gems in bulk is pretty cost prohibitive. So hopefully this will help settle some of the scarcity mind set, at least for the youngest! The colors are pretty bright and I do love how tiny and fun they are. 850 is not enough to fill our (preschool sized) sensory table, but it would probably be fine in a smaller table with some sand as filler. Honestly great purchase and I'm going keep my eye out for more colors and larger bulk sizes - I would have been happy with a set double this size.My biggest gripe is that the storage container they came in was strange. Shallow and very flat and obviously not strong enough to hold all these kind of dense plastic bits in, as it had to be taped shut on all three sides to stay closed. So I won't be able to use it to store the gems in without taping it. And, one of the hinges snapped completely when I was trying to figure out what else I could use for, so now it's just landfill filler. I'd rather these just be packaged in a compostable bag, especially since its just going in another box anyways? Anyway, the iteself is good enough, just a bit irritated at the way I received it.

I was first introduced to these lovely acrylic shapes when I made displays while working retail. They’re like little glittering gems and they look beautiful in the bottom of a display cabinet or in a vase on a table. It’s funny how I’ve remembered them all of these years and when I saw them, I had to snag them because I had an idea that these would be excellent math counters for my students. A math counter is a small shape that students use to sort, separate by attributes, or to model problems. In the lower grades, we use a lot of these and the more engaging they are the more engaging math is. Kindergarten students will totally love these. Here’s how they’ll work: if I want a student to model what 3+4 is, they will need to select three shapes of one color and four shapes of another color and then they can carefully count the shapes out all together. Because they are handling real objects the idea of how many plus how many equals how many becomes more tangible in their thinking. These are absolutely perfect for my needs. However, there are so many other ways that you can put them to use. You can:- work with your own child who is above age 3, and beyond putting things in their mouth, to learn numbers and counting- create beautiful vase fillers for decor in your home- use them for all kinds of craft projects, including mosaics- attach them to bezels and create lovely drop earrings, and jewelry- mix them in a bowl with rice, beans, and beads to create a sensory project- use them for add-ins to slime mixtures- add them to the tops of flowerpots to retain moisture and add sparkle- give some to children for decor in fairy houses and gardens- add them to pirate treasure boxes for a pirate themed partyThere’s so many ways to use these that you are only limited by your own creative thinking. These are about the diameter of a dime, multicolor and hard acrylic crystals. The edges are not sharp, but are not soft so you will want to keep them picked up off of the floor because they will hurt if you step on them without shoes. I love them and I think you will also. Recommend.
This set of fake gems is so fun for crafting or for vases and decor. We used it with some other small trinkets in a pouch we made for kids for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. We hope they'll make for a fun surprise for those kids. The colors are bright and the kids loved playing with them. They'd be great for imaginative play as well.
