Magnets actually stick
I have way too many metal French doors in my house. That means a lot of curtains and not just any type of rod. It doesn’t seem to matter whether these magnetic rods come from the corner discount store, the big box DIY store, or the twee home decor shop, the magnets are dubious and the rods are light. These rods felt different right away. The rods are a bit thicker and heavier. The end of the larger rod (they extend telescopically) is finished with a plastic ring to prevent snagging or scratching.Other rods I’ve tried mount to the magnetic ends by laying atop hooks, which makes the rod pop out and fall any time you touch a curtain. These rods get pressed into the end caps to form one solid rod. Each end is a different size to fit its corresponding rod snugly.Installation is just a matter of sliding the curtain onto the rod, pressing on the end caps, and attaching the magnets to the door or other metal surface. And when I say attach, I mean attach. The magnets snap to the metal with force you can feel. It takes quite a tug to disconnect the rod. I didn’t know whether to be shocked or overjoyed with how well these stayed in place. I haven’t tested to see how much weight they support but I have no doubt these could handle considerably more than the rods they are replacing. They look good and feel durable enough to last as long as I need them. They are well worth the price.

Good for light sheers or curtains, mixed usefulness elsewhere
The rails and end pieces arrived in a cardboard box, with each end piece in it's own bubble-wrap bag to prevent marking each other or the rails. The end pieces are paired - the ones with the hole large enough for the outer rod are loose on the narrower inner rod, so the first thing is to sort those out and ensure one of each for each pair of rails. The coatings have very minor cosmetic irregularities, probably from contact during manufacture, but I didn't find anything significant or that could be seen from a distance, on the ones I received. The magnetic bases appear to be plastic coating around a metal base, with magnetic tape attached. The bases all stick to the rod, so the rods definitely have steel content. It's easy to attach the end pieces by pushing on to the end of the rods and there is no film or covering on the magnetic tape so the rods can them immediately be attached to the chosen locations. My first hope was to use one rail on the front of a chest freezer to hold kitchen towels. Although they stick firmly, the problem came when I placed a tea towel on the rod and then pulled on it slightly to straighten the corners and flatten it out (much as anyone might do to let a towel dry out, for example), the the rail immediately moved downward as I tugged with only the force needed to flatten out the fabric. I found that it was easy to dislodge the rail by pulling at an angle (not 90 degrees directly away from the flat surface) and I'm pretty sure a small child could do it if they just grab and pull. So I felt overall the towel rail idea was impractical in my circumstances. The same applied with the rail on a metal storage cabinet, it is fine for hanging small and light objects, but sideways force easily moves the rail. In my own opinion the rails are slightly oversold for these purposes - they do work but boisterous children or careless adults are going to dislodge them. In a relatively undisturbed location, they do work,However they really do work well as temporary or even permanent light curtain rods on metal doors. At 28" inches, empty, there is no bowing in the center (I attached an image, not it's final destination but showing an example). Extended to 29" they do bow while empty, so the product description is exactly correct in limiting them to 28" inches. They could definitely support a sheer curtain in the 20" range, over that will depend on the weight of the fabric. At 16" or just over then the inner rod is almost completely inside the outer rod and they can take more weight, but again it will then depend on the fabric. In my case we have a door which gets total sun during the hottest time of year and this is where a temporary rail will really be useful. So for a temporary rail for curtains, in my case these rails will work well and be totally satisfactory, but I think it may be over-ambitious to use them as towel rails - unless towels or similar are carefully placed and removed. Overall, I think this limits their usefulness, and is the reason I gave them an average rating. This is just my personal opinion. I would recommend them as good value for light curtains, but would not recommend as towel rails or similar.

only sticks to steel surfaces
This magnetic curtain rod is a practical option for lightweight setups. The 1/2-inch diameter rod feels sturdy for its size, and the adjustable length from 16 to 28 inches makes it versatile for small windows, cabinets, or narrow door panels. Installation is quick and easy — no tools required — as long as you’re attaching it to a steel surface. It’s important to note that the magnets only work on steel. They won’t stick to aluminum, wood, or other non-magnetic surfaces, so be sure your mounting area is compatible before purchasing. The rod is rated to hold up to 5 lbs, which seems accurate for lightweight items. It works well for a small curtain, sheer panel, or even a hand towel. Heavier drapes may cause it to slide or lose grip over time.Overall, it’s a convenient and simple solution for lightweight curtains or a hand towel on steel surfaces, but it does have clear limitations in where it can be used and how much weight it can support.
