really really nice- bought for my in-laws and she immediately wanted the link because she wanted to give as gifts.
Love it!!
I ordered the set of two 6"x8" frames. Having the smaller photo-holding frame centered within the larger frame via metal spindles is a very clever way to get double use from a picture frame while doubling the ability twice as many of those old photos that have been languishing away in that old musty shoe box in the crowded coat or vacuum closet.Anyhoo .. the outer and inner frames are solidly made from real tree parts, aka genuine wood with an attractive stain and a smooth finish. The frame corners are joined neatly and feel very sturdy. The center frame has two panes of glass to protect two photos facing each other back to back. Nobody wants to see the boring blank back of a photo anyway. The glass and photos are easily removed to slip in new, or new old photos, or insert anything else that is very flat and of suitable size. This back to back double image display could be a very handy thing for folks who find themselves in a contentious relationship. Place a photo of your cantankerous significant other on one side, and a photo of something or someone else more consistently pleasant on the reverse, or even place a note with the contact info for a good counselor or divorce attorney on ol' Grumpy's back. Have an argument? Turn that image of your irritating someone to the wall, smile at the new image, and think happy thoughts!Since I am a certified plant nerd, I have carpéd these nifty frames for a more off-label, down to earth function. I display pressed (dried) flowers and foliage plucked from our old home place family farm in my frames. The rotating function allows plant people such as myself to observe the intricate details of both sides of the displayed flat vegetation. Woohoo! For plant-nerdy people who are seriously into observing smashed flora, seeing both sides has been a rare treat. Pressing flora is is a labor and time intensive project, and the results produce dry, very fragile specimens of vegetation that retain minute details a photograph or sketch can not duplicate. The age old standard display method involves carefully taping desicated specimens to a piece of card stock or heavy paper and placing them into a frame or into a plastic sleeve in a binder. Getting touchy feely with crumbling dead plant parts to see what's around back is a very bad idea that can quickly destroy a treasured specimen. Pressed plant specimens can last for many decades if they are treated with respect from a distance and never fiddled with.Fortunately, creative people keep coming up with new ideas, so groovy frames like these allow solving the mystery of what's around back, regarding smashed plant parts, anyway. BTW: the frames DO have grooves to hold the glass, so they are groovy. The quality and functionality of these rotating, double display frames make the price more than reasonable. Try them, you will like them!
The most important thing to know about these frames is that although the structure is made of wood, they are coated with some kind of film that is painted to look like wood. The end result is a frame that does not look like a wood frame, it looks like a plastic frame.I was planning to put two images in this frame so that you could see one on the front and one on the back. The images were on watercolor paper, and despite not being very thick, two sheets absolutely will not fit in this frame. The slot size, plus the thickness of the glass mean that you can really only insert one sheet of paper or perhaps two VERY thin photos.I'm going to be returning this product. It looks good in the listing, but the reality is sub-par.
These are sturdy, nice looking frames. You can load two opposite facing pictures so there's no boring back of the frame - great for desks, tables or shelves where it might be viewed from either side. That they can be displayed horizontally or vertically is also a plus. They come very well wrapped - protected by bubble wrap and with styrofoam cushioning and include very clear directions as to how to load the pictures (though the process is actually is quite intuitive). Just be sure to follow the step that tells you to insert the cotton plug after putting the photo in. Otherwise when you flip the frame to see the photo on the other side, it's likely to fall out.The product description for these frames notes that the rotating mechanism is smooth. My issue is that it is perhaps a little too smooth. There is no way to lock the frame in the position you want it. I find that when I place the frame on a table with the inner frame lined up squared with the outer frame, I come back later and often the inner frame has slipped out of alignment - leaning forward or back. I find this irritating enough to deduct a star from this review of frames that I would otherwise be completely pleased with.
This is a cool, nice quality frame! It spins very smoothly and in a continuous 360° in either direction. To put the pictures in, you remove a long black plug along the side and slide out the 2 pieces of glass. This definitely a step above a typical picture frame. The only negative thing I have to say is that the glass came very dirty, despite the whole frame being wrapped in plastic. The actual glass did not have a protective film. So you definitely have to give the glass a good cleaning before use.
