*cough*gasp*uugh*
I'd been seeing incense (burners) on Vine for a while now: just scrolled (quickly past), same as most items I know I have no use for… But then I saw this one: a river of incense, also holds the sticks: sure, why the hell not? Naturally, I couldn't find any incense for free on Vine (that day, nor the next) to test it with: had to buy some (being partly why I had never bothered: a frivolous expense)… I quickly chose some BRAND Sandalwood sticks (remembering I used to like that flavor, back in the day)… A few minutes(/hours, cannot quite remember) later: subconscious caught up: what if I hate that stick-incense flavor, now? Cancelled that order, perused for some cones instead… [Turned out, later, there's more than one style: naturally, I got the wrong one.] I decided on a variety pack (as tastes change over time): well-rated after thousands of reviews, that'll do.Got my cones a fair while later (having cancelled Prime, again, as the holidays are over I needn't it anymore: not much of anything I buy (I cannot wait a week for) in the meanwhile), asked my daughter which flavor I should try: chose strawberry (the pinkest box in the pack: keeping commentary to myself): sure, why not? Slit the bag inside the box, pulled out a cone… smacked myself upside the head: how's the smoke supposed to flow ‘downriver’ when there's no hole in the bottom of this cone? [Whereupon I vaguely recalled one of the cone varieties having ‘down-drafting’ in the title: which meant nothing to me at the time: having summarily dismissed that option as its price was, like, a dollar-or-two more than the others: so, nope, not interested.] Goramit! Tried jamming a toothpick through the bottom: nope, too hard, then tried a needle: nope, considered a tiny drill-bit: but visions of the cone crumbling (and the bit drilling into my fingertip) dissuaded any allusions that I could somehow make these work as intended… shortly thereafter my subconscious reminding me I could not now return these: having opened the packaging… Stupid, stupid, stupid me: do some research before buying/opening first, duh… [Having not bothered to consider the physics required for the proper-functioning of this incense burner, prior to buying/screwing-up.]Strawberry: yeah, okay… Not bad, not cloying: walking out/into the room again to test the flavor. Burned down to ash in about thirty minutes: had expected longer. The smell lingered all day/night, had mildly dissipated by the morning. Time to try another: Opium. [My daughter had laughed at that, as did I too internally chuckle at, upon seeing that flavor.]Opium: gah, shudder, flee… No, sir, I do not like it. I could attempt to enumerate all the ways that was not found pleasant, but let's leave it at: my lips felt weird and my stomach turned. I am still without any appetite seven hours later (that pervasive smell having soaked into everything, everywhere), having flung the cone out the side-door after all of five minutes of burn-time. Had considered trying to extinguish it somewhere in the incense burner, but foresaw that invariably making for a bigger, greater-smoldering, potential fire-hazard disaster best avoided. I considered burning a different flavor in hopes of covering it up: but what if I hate the next one worse? Best not risk it.I remember stick-incense holders being either a tiny square or a thin strip of (slightly angled-up) wood. This holder is meaty (in a pinch could be used as a club), thick, solid. The wood seems to be all-one-piece (never can tell no more, just by the pictures/description: too many false declarations out there): nicely smooth, sanded: except for the bottom-edge which is nearly razor-sharp; the stain is consistent, deep, nice hue. The body-shape has alternating round and hard (though not sharp) cornering. The stick-holders, one at each end, offer four hole-sizes for whatever your stick-size: considerate; the angle is fixed: but I somehow suspect they've set it just right (without any stick-incense here to test it with: being still unsure of which flavor I would bother to invest in ten+ boxes of: being the best-value).Came with two brushes and a pair of angled needlenose pliers (for what purpose I am unsure: oh, probably to pull out any burned-down too-low sticks?): they're basic, but do the job (perhaps useful elsewhere, in other capacities, too?).Pictured– Amongst other Vine swag to review; shown with the included accessories (forgot to picture the storage-bag it came within); close-up after one full-burn (and a partial) of a cone, with whatever ash didn't just blow-off.Overall– Four.Five Stars (rounded-up): for the razor-edges on the bottom (being the only un-nicely rounded bits on the whole design).<UPDATE> Wound up spraying BRAND disinfectant into the air to cover the stank, that queasy feeling only getting worse: my weeks-ago gutted (exterior) walls needed another dose anyways (to kill-off the decades-old mildew); not like I can pop open a window: being single-digits cold outside again, for weeks now… [My timing is terrible.] Might be a few days before I dare to drown/douse my home in another flavor-cone. I remember now why decades have passed since last I bought/burned incense; sage-bundles being a whole other matter, entirely. </UPDATE>
