I really liked the idea of these blackout strips, but my windows had other plans. The inside of my frames are textured and a bit uneven (old house problems), so the strips just couldn’t stick the way they’re meant to. If your walls or sills are perfectly smooth, they might work great, but for older or uneven surfaces, they’re probably not the best fit.
Looks even better than the original.
I am very impressed with these PVC room light blocking strips! They came well packaged with clear instructions and even included screws, though the peel-and-stick tape is so strong I didn't feel the need for them. 📦 Pro tip: Make sure you clean the sides of your window frame thoroughly before sticking them on to get the best bond! 🧼I used a miter saw to make a couple really quick cuts since I only have 35” high windows. I agree you could also use a hack saw, angle grinder, or even a really stout kitchen shears also or a dremel tool. I did angle one of mine rounded to better fit my window since there was a lot of caulk next to my window itself. These did an excellent job of killing that annoying light bleed around the edges of my shades. 🌑 One thing to watch out for—and this was totally my own fault—is the clearance at the bottom. My window has handles and my roller blinds have a very large and rounded bottom rail, which caught on the strips near the bottom. 🪟 I’d definitely recommend test-fitting and marking your placement with a pencil before peeling the tape to make sure your blinds can still lower all the way and achieve the very darkest room possible.Even with my minor fitment oversight, these are a total game changer for anyone who needs a truly dark room and works the night shift like myself! 😴🙌
I received the Blindit 100% Blackout PVC Light Blocking Strips in white, size 58 inches, and the package included 2 pieces. These light blockers are very convenient and easy to install. They stick well to the sides of the window, and the adhesive seems strong and durable, not something that feels like it will peel off easily over time.I used them in my bedroom with blackout blinds, and they really help seal the light that comes in through the edges, turning the setup into a true blackout. There is a noticeable difference, especially in the morning and at night when outside light usually leaks in from the sides. One important thing to note: you should choose the correct size for your window, because cutting them is difficult. While it is possible to trim them, the material is not easy to cut cleanly, so measuring carefully before purchasing is key.Overall, they do exactly what they’re meant to do and are a great solution if you want to improve the effectiveness of your blackout blinds.
ProsActually blocks light: Significantly reduces or fully eliminates light bleed along the sides of blackout blinds.Strong adhesive: Pre-applied 3M adhesive holds well on smooth surfaces and doesn’t peel easily.Easy install: Peel, stick, done — screws included for uneven or rough surfaces.Clean look: Helps blinds look more finished by covering side gaps.Durable material: Thick PVC feels sturdy and not flimsy.Works instantly: Immediate improvement, especially for bedrooms and early-morning light.ConsSurface-dependent: Adhesive struggles on textured, uneven, or older window frames.Hard to cut cleanly: PVC is tough to trim neatly; measuring correctly is important.Somewhat overpriced: For plastic strips, price may feel high.Visible hardware: Corner loops / strip edges may be noticeable in some setups.Bottom LineIf you already have blackout blinds and want to eliminate side light bleed, these work very well as long as your window frames are smooth. Measure carefully before buying, avoid cutting if possible, and you’ll get near-true blackout results. Not ideal for old, uneven frames — but excellent for modern or clean installations.
TLDR: Works as intended, covers the gaps, need to cut to fit the height of your window framePretty straight forward product - use it to cover the gaps where light bleeds in. Our issue was the gap between the frame of the blinds and the wall. Our blinds came with gaskets to use to help fill that space, but given how large the gap is, its a bit unsightly. So these strips are perfect for covering the gap and giving a clean look to the blinds. The adhesive strips attach well to the metal frame and stay in place. We used a hacksaw to cut the length to the proper size. These completely block the remaining light and match the finish of our white blinds. We didn't need to use the included screws, but worth noting, as most window frames have wood framing directly under the sheetrock, the wall anchors won't be necessary. While these seem to be a little over priced for being PVC plastic, they are tall, include the adhesive strips, and seem to be made of quality plastic.
